Trevor Bayliss's two-year contract with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS) ended this year, and he may not receive an extension after failing to provide the expected results.

PBKS is one of the three teams that have participated in the IPL from its start in 2008 but have not yet taken home an IPL trophy. Despite having a good squad, PBKS has finished eighth and ninth in the last two seasons under Bayliss, which made the franchise ownership group disappointed.

Bayliss, who succeeded Anil Kumble in 2022, has a long history in the IPL, having worked with three teams - Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings - as well as coaching England during one of the most defining periods in English cricket. 

After Gautam Gambhir and Ashish Nehra's success, Cricbuzz stated that Punjab Kings are searching for an Indian coach. One of the leading candidates for the position is Sanjay Bangar, who is now the director of cricket development and was the team's head coach before, though nothing is official just yet.

A board meeting was supposed to take place on July 22 to make a choice, but it didn't, so the franchise decided to broaden its search in advance of the massive auction later this year. The ownership group is eager to choose a coach who can successfully guide the club and contribute to securing a better standing for the team in the forthcoming campaign.
