Indian opening batsman Prithvi Shaw will also represent Northamptonshire in 2024 after agreeing a deal with the county side. He is expected to be available for the second half of the season starting in June and is expected to compete in the County Championship and One-Day Cup.

Prithvi Shaw will return to play for Northamptonshire in the 2024 county season, the club announced on Thursday (August 31). Shaw's availability to take part in both the County Championship and One-Day Cup has been confirmed.

Shaw recently had a stint with Northamptonshire but that was cut short due to a PCL injury. Although he only played a handful of games in the One-ay Cup, he made quite an impression, particularly with his record 244 runs in the team's victory over Somerset. Shaw followed with another unbeaten hundred but sustained an injury while fielding.

Prithvi Shaw was delighted at the prospect of returning to Northamptonshire for the 2024 season, saying in a statement released by the Northants:

"I'm so looking forward to returning to Northamptonshire next summer." Although it was quick I really enjoyed my time there, it's a great club to be a part of and I immediately felt so welcome with everyone .” I can’t wait to get back over there. My goal is always to help the team win games and it was so disappointing that I got injured and had to leave early this time."

“A few teams contacted me after the tournament and wanted to talk about playing for them next year, but I feel I can achieve more with Northamptonshire. They gave me the opportunity this year and I'm really excited to be back."
Shaw, whose last international appearance came in 2021, is expected to begin his second spell in June 2024 and will remain with the club until the end of the season.

Chairman Ray Payne was pleased to have signed Prithvi Shaw for another year.

“We have seen the impact Prithvi has had in his short stay this year and how well he has been received by fans.

“It’s really pleasing to have it back for next year and for much of the season. I think he wanted to come back as much as we wanted him, so it worked out great.”

Head coach John Sadler was also looking forward to welcoming Prithvi back into the dressing room.

“Prithvi is a phenomenal talent and what he has done for us in such a short space of time has been incredible.”
