Nicholas Pooran (born October 2, 1995) is a cricketer from Trinidad who plays for the West Indies cricket team in international cricket and for the Trinidad and Tobago in West Indian domestic games. In 2016 he made his international debut for the West Indies.

Domestic Career
From McBean, Couva, Pooran attended Naparima College in San Fernando and played for the school's cricket team. As a left-handed wicket keeper / batsman, he represented Trinidad and Tobago at various tournaments for minors and schoolchildren and made his national U19 debut at the regional tournament in 2012 at the age of only 16.
Pooran made his debut for the West Indies U19 team in October 2013 in a bilateral series against the Bangladesh U19 team and played in the 2014 U19 World Cup. As the team's vice-captain and primary wicket keeper, he scored 303 runs in six games , finished fourth for total runs and led the West Indies average.
These included a half-century against Canada and India, and an inning of 143 runs against Australia (out of 208 teams overall), in what was the highest scoring of the tournament and was later described as "one of the most memorable innings under pressure in tournament history". Poorans innings was the all-time highest U19 ODI score against Australia and his 136 run ninth wicket partnership with Barbadian Jerome Jones was a record for all U19 games.
Before playing at international U19 level, Pooran made four appearances for Trinidad and Tobago in the national one-day regional Super50 competition in February and March 2013.
Prior to the 2013 CPL inaugural season, he was selected to the Red Steel roster, Trinidad's CPL franchise, and at 17 was the youngest player in the competition. On his debut against the Guyana Amazon Warriors, he hit 54 from 24 in an inning that spanned six sixes and was known for his "clean, calm stroke play" and "unbridled aggression." Pooran's batting was less successful for the rest of the tournament and also in the 2013 Champions League where he represented the Trinidad and Tobago national team rather than the Red Steel franchise.
He played again for the Red Steel in the 2014 CPL season but has yet to score another half century. Pooran made his first-class debut for Trinidad and Tobago against the Leeward Islands in November 2014 during the 2014/15 season of the regional four-day competition.
In his second game against Jamaica, he had 55 runs in T&T's second innings, his highest scoring, before becoming one of Nikita Miller's seven casualties. At club level, Pooran plays for Clarke Road in the Trinidadian leagues.
He also played part of the 2014 Ontario season, representing Redemption Sports Club in the Etobicoke & District Cricket League.
In January 2015, Pooran was involved in a traffic accident in St. Mary's, Trinidad, suffering ankle and knee injuries. He was ruled out for the remainder of Trinidad and Tobago's national season as well as the 2015 Caribbean Premier League.
In June 2018 he was called up to the Cricket West Indies B Team squad for the inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada tournament. In July 2020, he was named to the Guyana Amazon Warriors roster for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). On August 30, 2020, Pooran scored his first century in a T20 match in the CPL game against the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots.
T20 Franchise Career
In February 2017 he was bought by the Mumbai Indians team for the 2017 Indian Premier League for 30 lakhs INR but did not play a game the entire season.
Pooran played for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League in 2017 when he was drafted into the United squad to replace Englishman Ben Duckett. He joined the team before the playoffs. He made his debut against Karachi Kings.
Pooran failed to sell at the 2018 IPL auction after setting his base price at 50 lakhs INR.
In October 2018, he was called up to the Sylhet Sixers squad following the draft for the 2018–19 Bangladesh Premier League. With 379 runs in 11 games, he was the team's leading run scorer in the tournament.
Nicholas Pooran IPL In December 2018 he was bought by the Kings XI Punjab at the 2019 Indian Premier League Players Auction for 4.2 crore (US$590,000). Pooran had an excellent 2020 IPL season as he totaled 353 runs in the 14 games he played in the season. He was also the fourth-highest sixer in the 2020 IPL season, hitting 25 total sixes throughout the season. However, he only scored 85 runs in IPL 2021.

International Career
On September 23, 2016, he made his debut at Twenty20 International (T20I) for the West Indies against Pakistan. In November 2018 he was named to the West Indies squad for their tour to India. In the third T20I match, he scored an unbeaten 53 runs with just 25 balls to win his first half century in T20I cricket.
In February 2019 he was named in the West Indies' One Day International (ODI) for their series against England. On February 20, 2019, he made his ODI debut for the West Indies against England. In April 2019, he was named to the West Indies squad for the 2019 World Cricket Championship. On July 1, 2019, in the game against Sri Lanka, Pooran scored his first century in ODIs. He finished the tournament as the leading run scorer for the West Indies with 367 runs in nine games. After the World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named Pooran Cricket the rising star of the squad. In July 2019, Cricket West Indies awarded a central contract for the first time before the 2019/20 season.
He later became vice-captain for the West Indies in T20international cricket. He even captained the West India cricket team in the 5-match 20 20 International Series against the Australian cricket team that won the Caribbean side 4-1 in 2020 in place of the original 2020 national team captain Kieron Pollard, who injured his hamstring in training.
In November 2019, during the third ODI against Afghanistan, Pooran was found guilty of ball manipulation. Pooran admitted the charges and was banned for four T20I games.
In September 2021, Pooran was named vice captain of the West Indies squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
