Early Life and Education
Leach was born on June 22, 1991 in Taunton, England and attended Trinity School, Bishop Fox's School and Richard Huish College in Taunton. At the age of 14, Leach was diagnosed with Crohn's disease.
Cricket Career
Leach graduated from Somerset County Cricket Club Academy in the summer of 2010 before signing a professional contract with Somerset. Leach represented Dorset County Cricket Club at the 2010 Minor Counties Cricket Championship and bowled his side to victory in the final against Lincolnshire, going 6/21 in their second innings. Leach graduated from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, with a degree in Sports Coaching. While studying at university, Leach represented Cardiff MCCU in 2011 and 2012 and made his first-team debut against his Somerset county in March 2012, where he bowled 41 overs but failed to take a wicket when Somerset scored 642/3d.
Leach made his Somerset debut in a two-day game against the traveling South Africans in July 2012, taking the coveted wicket from Hashim Amla. He made his first-class debut for Somerset in the 2012 County Championship match against Lancashire in August 2012, the rain-hit match ended in a tie, with Leach claiming Kyle Hogg as his first first-class wicket. Further first-team opportunities were limited for the remainder of the 2012 season with the signing of Pakistani spinner Abdur Rehman and Leach played in just one more County Championship match and three games in the 2012 Clydesdale Bank 40 but finished the season at the ninth place the national first-class averages with 12 wickets at 18.83 runs apiece. Leach spent the winter of 2012/13 playing cricket for Valley District Cricket Club in Brisbane, Australia, helping his side win the T20 competition.
Leach returned to Somerset on a summer pre-season contract and played his first league game of the season against Warwickshire as first-choice spinner George Dockrell was injured. He took his first five-wicket draw in the second innings, with 24 of his 44 overs being maidens. Leach made his Twenty20 debut on June 23, 2021 for Somerset in the T20 Blast 2021.
Jack Leach The Hundred 2022 In April 2022 he was bought by Birmingham Phoenix for the 2022 season of The Hundred.
International Career
On 14 February 2018 while playing for the England Lions against West Indies A, Leach achieved match numbers of 8-110; he beat the previous bests of a spinner of the England Lions (Graeme Swann's 8-156).
On 16 March 2018 he was called up to replace Mason Crane in England's Test squad for the New Zealand tour. He made his debut in the second test in Christchurch.
In an unusual circumstance with one player remaining during a friendly against Sri Lanka on 15 November 2018, Leach opened England's innings as night guard and survived to the death. The next morning he was dismissed for 1 ball out of 11. In July 2019, in the one-off Test against Ireland, Leach was again the night guard for England, struggling for a single-over at the end of the first day. England won the Test by 143 runs, with Leach scoring 92 runs, earning him Man of the Match honors.
He was then recalled for the second Ashes Test at Lords on August 14, 2019 where he scored 6 points in the first inning and went 1-19 and 3-37 in Australia's first and second innings. England drew the game.
Jack Leach and Ben Stokes Partnership Leach scored a run and leveled the game in a 76 partnership with Ben Stokes to help England win the third Ashes Test at Headingley by one wicket. It has been described as "arguably the greatest in the game's history".
Leach gained a cult following in the summer of 2019, with his glasses contributing to that. He regularly cleans them during his innings and has been awarded complimentary Specsavers glasses for life after assisting Ben Stokes in the dramatic Headingley Test. This cult reputation was reinforced by his behavior off the pitch, for example taking some members of the England team out to re-enact his famous run at Headingley after the game.
On May 29, 2020, Leach Cricketer was called up to a 55-strong squad of players to begin training ahead of international games beginning in England following the COVID-19 pandemic. On 17 June 2020, Leach was added to England's 30-man squad to begin behind closed doors training for the Test series against the West Indies. On July 4, 2020, Leach was named as one of the nine reserves for the first Test game of the series.
