Corey James Anderson (born December 13, 1990 in New Zealand) is a former New Zealand cricketer who has played as an all-rounder for New Zealand in international cricket as well as for Lahore Qalanders in the PSL, Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL and Northern Districts in New Zealand cricket first class. After retiring from the New Zealand team in 2020, he announced his intention to play for the USA cricket team in 2022.
On January 1, 2014, Anderson rose to fame by posting what was then the fastest century in One Day International cricket history. In the game against West Indies, he hit his hundred in just 36 balls, breaking Shahid Afridi's previous record of 37 deliveries. Anderson finished the innings unbeaten with 131 in 47 balls, hitting 14 sixes and 6 fours. That record was later broken in 2015 by AB de Villiers, who scored a century against the West Indies with just 31 deliveries.
International career
Anderson made his debut for New Zealand in a T20 international match against South Africa on December 21, 2012 after being called up to the T20I and ODI squads for the 2012/13 South Africa tour. He was inducted into New Zealand's 2013 ODI squad for the Champions Trophy and made his ODI debut against England in Cardiff on June 16, 2013.
Anderson made his Test debut against Bangladesh on July 9, 2013, scoring 1 & 8 with the racket. He received two wickets of 19 overs with the ball. Anderson reached his first Test century in his second Test match. He scored 116 runs out of 173 balls and took a wicket. In May 2018, he was one of twenty players to be signed by New Zealand Cricket for the 2018/19 season.
T20 career
Anderson played in IPL 7 for the Mumbai Indians who paid him 45 million rupees ($ 750,000). In his debut match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, he scored just 2 runs before being thrown by Sunil Narine. He bowled 3 overs and received 33 runs for no wickets.
Anderson received his first Man of the Match award on May 3, 2014 against Kings XI Punjab, where he picked up the Cheteshwar Pujara wicket and scored 35 runs with 25 balls. On May 25, 2014, Anderson led his team, the Mumbai Indians, to the play-offs against the Rajasthan Royals by killing 95 of just 44 balls unbeaten, with Mumbai chasing the 190 total in just 14.3 overs to stand up for qualify for the playoffs with a better net run rate.
After being handicapped by injuries in recent years, Anderson announced his resignation from New Zealand Cricket and subsequent signing of a three-year contract with the US Major League Cricket T20 competition in December 2020. This decision was made with the aim of eventually representing the USA in international competition, since his fiancée is American. In June 2021, Anderson was selected in the player draft prior to the minor league cricket tournament.
