Perfect start: Rohit Sharma praises Gambhir-Suryakumar's new Team India
Batting first, India faced a strong challenge from Sri Lanka and scored 137 runs. In retaliation, the hosts got off to a good start but eventually stumbled. After guiding Lanka to 138 runs, Kusal Perera (46, 34b) and Kusal Mendis (43, 41b) had their innings crumble in the same old way in the last over. After the allotted 20 overs, SL were 137/8, resulting in a Super Over.

India got their new adventure off to a winning start with a 3-0 thrashing of Sri Lanka in the T20 International series. The reign of Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav is officially underway with this whitewash. The Sri Lanka tour was the first official outing for Gambhir as head coach and Suryakumar as captain.

In the last overs, spinners Rinku Singh and captain Suryakumar Yadav took two vital wickets. Super Over Sri Lanka scored just 2 runs thanks to superb bowling by Washington Sundar. Everyone was praising Suryakumar and the squad after the victory. However, the post that gained the most attention was written by Rohit Sharma, former captain of the Indian T20 International team. With the caption “Perfect start. Well done Team India," Rohit posted an Instagram photo from the trophy celebration moment.
Suryakumar succeeded Rohit Sharma as India's captain in the shortest format of international cricket, while Gautam Gambhir succeeded Rahul Dravid as head coach. Once India's historic T20 World Cup 2024 victory was announced, Dravid and Rohit said their goodbyes. Rohit retired to make room for the next generation, while Dravid left once his contract expired.
India will next face Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI international series at the R Premadasa Stadium from August 2–7.
