The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is gearing up for a comprehensive review of the state of cricket in the country through a 'Connection Camp,' scheduled for September 23 in Lahore. This initiative comes in the wake of Pakistan's disheartening performances across formats, including their recent 0-2 Test series loss to Bangladesh on home soil. The camp will aim to reshape Pakistan's approach to cricket, targeting both international and domestic levels.

Key figures such as head coaches Gary Kirsten (limited-overs) and Jason Gillespie (Test), along with centrally contracted players like captains Babar Azam and Shan Masood, will attend. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who has spearheaded the idea, envisions this camp as the first step towards reversing the declining performances. Kirsten and Gillespie have been integral in preparing detailed reports about the team’s struggles, with Gillespie directly involved in the Pakistan-Bangladesh series.

The PCB hopes to emulate the success of England’s 2015 cultural reset following their early exit in that year's ODI World Cup. This overhaul led England to white-ball dominance, culminating in wins at the 2019 ODI and 2022 T20 World Cups. Pakistan's goal is to replicate this model and restore its international standing.

A key part of this strategy will be the rebranded Champions One-Day Cup, slated to run from September 12-29 in Faisalabad. The tournament will provide a platform for domestic players to showcase their talent, with notable stars like Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shadab Khan captaining their respective teams. The camp, which will coincide with a rest day in the tournament, will allow PCB members to review performances and set a unified vision for the future.
