Former cricketer Tauseef Ahmed has been appointed as the national team's temporary chief selector by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), taking up the role left vacant by the resignation of Inzamam ul Haq last month.

Former Test off-spinner Tauseef Ahmed has taken over the role of interim chief selector for the upcoming Australian Test series following Inzamam-ul-Haq's recent resignation amid allegations of conflict of interest.

In a significant development within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), former cricketer Tauseef Ahmed has temporarily taken over the role of chief selector. This marks his first assignment as head of the selection committee, a job of great responsibility as the committee selects the team for the upcoming tour to Australia.

The newly formed selection committee includes notable members such as Tauseef Ahmed and Wajahatullah Wasti, with senior selectors being given specific tasks. Wajahatullah Wasti is part of the National Men’s Selection Committee along with Wasim Haider. At the same time, the junior selection committee consists of Aamer Nazir, Javed Hayat, Mahmood Hamid, Naveed Latif, Salman Ahmed and Sana Baloch.

Inzamam's decision to resign was triggered by allegations about his association with a UK-based players' agency, which subsequently prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to launch an investigation.

A five-member investigative committee has been set up to investigate Inzamam's association with the aforementioned players agency. This committee is expected to submit its findings to PCB CEO Zaka Ashraf by November 6.

"During the ongoing ICC World Cup in India, any situation may arise regarding the selection of players and the national Test team for the Australia tour will be selected after a short period of time." A responsible person should be at the helm and monitor the situation in order to to select the best team for the Australian tour. Keeping this entire scenario in mind, the PCB is likely to give the [chief selector] job to Tauseef on an interim basis,” PCB sources said.
