According to a report, the series could start in the second week of January as New Zealand have a vacant window ahead of their home series against South Africa in February. Notably, Pakistan last toured New Zealand in October 2022 in the run-up to the T20 World Cup for a T20I tri-series, where they emerged victorious by beating the hosts in the final by five wickets.

The two nations have played a lot of cricket against each other lately as New Zealand has toured Pakistan twice. The Kiwis first visited the country for the Test and ODI series, which began in December 2022, and later for a T20I and ODI series in April.

The two-game Test series in December ended 0-0, while the tourists won the ODIs 2-1. On the other hand, this year's five-game T20I series ended 2-2 as one of the games was lost in Rawalpindi, while Pakistan won the ODI series 4-1 last month.

The team led by Babar Azam won the Tri-Series, defeating New Zealand in the decider by five wickets.

Since then, the Kiwis have visited Pakistan twice, first for the Test and ODI series which started in late December 2021 and the other time for a T20 and ODI series in April.

The two-game Test series in December was a draw while the tourists won 2-1 in the ODIs.
