This record came to life once again when English opener Alastair Cook achieved this in the Melbourne test of the Ashes. He was not out for 244 runs and played 409 deliveries.
16 years ago in Zimbabwe, Bangladesh's Javed Omar achieved this same feat in his debut test match. There are four cricketers who were not out till the end in both the formats and Omar is one of them.
After English batsman Cook's extraordinary innings, Omar said when he heard his achievement came to life once again: "I am feeling happy. It makes me feel that I have achieved something for this country too. These achievements are not to be left out."
When asked about his innings in his debut test match: "It was challenging for the team. I had to prove myself too. I was sad that I couldn't play Bangladesh's first test match. I felt like I was coming back to form after I scored a fifty against Zimbabwe in the first test. Then I scored unbeaten 85 runs and was not out till the end. If we wouldn't have lost the match, then I would have been more happy. But still, that innings gave me a lot of courage."
He added: "There can be no comparison with Cook's innings. But I can remember my innings. Cook was carrying the after scoring 244 runs, I was carrying the bat after scoring 85 runs. But it makes me happy that we are now in the same list. These are achievements to be remembered."
