Pakistan thrashed Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs on Thursday (27th July) at Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo. Abdullah Shafique's majestic double hundred, Agha Salman's swashbuckling 132* and then Noman Ali sliced through the Lankan batting lineup with his career best 7 wicket haul in a single innings of Test Cricket.
Earlier today, Pakistan just batted two overs due to Mohammad Rizwan's fifty and once he reached to his mark skipper Babar Azam contemplated it's enough and hence, they declared after piling a mammoth 576-5 with a massive lead of 410 in their arsenal.
Coming out to bat trailing by 410, Sri Lanka had a decent start. Thanks to Dimuth Karunaratne and Nishan Madhushka and their 69 run stand. The former one scored 41, while the latter made 33 runs. But after the departure of these two, Sri Lanka crumbled like dominoes. Noman Ali was indomitable and he ran riot through the Lankan batting lineup. Sri Lanka lost 5 wickets in span of only 50 runs. Angelo Mathews at the end showed some resistance with his gutsy 63 off 127 balls but barring him neither of any batter couldn’t do anything. Sri Lanka managed to score only 188 and then they were bundled up by Pakistani bowlers.
Noman Ali especially was the pick of the bowlers as he had his career best figure with 7 wickets conceding only 70. He single handedly demolished Sri Lankan and helped Pakistan whitewash Sri Lanka. With the win Pakistan outplayed the hosts by 2-0 and topping the WTC leaderboard with utter domination.
