Pakistan's bowling absentee list continues to grow, with Noman most recently ruled out of the series for the three-match Test series against Australia. A PCB statement said he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis after complaining of 'sudden and severe' abdominal pain. Scans confirmed the diagnosis and he spent Friday night in hospital.
Noman underwent a laparoscopic appendectomy. The doctor said that the surgery was successful. The PCB said his condition is stable and good and he is expected to be discharged from the hospital on Saturday afternoon.
Noman's drop means Sajid Khan is now the only specialist spinner in Pakistan's squad whose fitness status is in doubt. Pakistan is expected to field a spinner for the second Test. As a result, Sajid's presence in the XI is almost certain.
Pakistan's fast bowling department has also suffered badly, with Khurram Shahzad ruled out of the series on Thursday with a stress fracture in his ribs. Naseem Shah is currently undergoing rehabilitation to recover from a long-term injury. And Haris Rauf did not want to play in this series.
