Bangladesh Women’s cricket team captain, Nigar Sultana Joty, etched her name in history during the T20 World Cup match against the West Indies by becoming the first Bangladeshi woman to score 2000 runs in T20 Internationals. Her composed knock of 39 runs not only brought her this milestone but also highlighted her resilience under pressure.

Nigar, who was 23 runs short of the 2000-run mark, entered the crease during the last over of the powerplay after Dilara Akter’s dismissal. Walking in at number four, Jyoti forged a 40-run partnership with Sobhana Mostary to steady Bangladesh’s innings. However, her journey towards the landmark wasn’t without drama.

On 21 runs, Nigar was gifted a lifeline after attempting to step out of the crease but missing the ball. The wicket-keeper fumbled the stumping chance, and to Nigar’s relief, a no-ball was called. She capitalized on the free hit, smashing a boundary to achieve the coveted 2000-run milestone in women's T20I cricket.

That boundary at 11.5 overs turned out to be Bangladesh’s last in the innings. In the final 49 balls of the match, no further boundaries were scored. Jyoti eventually fell for 39 runs off 44 balls, and Bangladesh Women posted a modest total of 103 runs after their 20 overs.

With this performance, Nigar now has 2016 runs in 96 T20I innings, becoming the 25th batter in women’s international T20 history to cross 2000 runs. In Bangladesh’s women’s cricket, she joins an elite club, as only one other player, Fargana Hoque, has crossed 1000 runs in T20Is, accumulating 1253 runs in 79 innings.
