After failing to perform well throughout the tournament, Liton Das saved his best for the final of the Asia Cup where he scored his maiden ODI hundred.

Mashrafe explains reason of promoting Mehidy up

Liton has played some vital knocks in the T20 format in the last few months. And that opened the door for him in the ODI team. However, he failed to hold the momentum of his T20 form and failed miserably till the final of the tournament. But it all changed when he got his new opening partner Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the final against India as they put 120 runs together in the opening stand. He scored 121 runs and despite losing the match, he was elected man of the match. The opener now wants to hold on to this momentum.

"All the seniors (including Mashrafe) has told me to focus on my game. All this while, I was not being able to get runs, but now that it has come, I need to keep the momentum going. That’s what the seniors have advised me."

The 23-year old is also delighted for finally being able to show his worth in the ODI format.

"I was not among runs for a while. My ODI career wasn’t quite going the way I would have wanted. I could not even find rhythm in the Asia Cup initially. Even though I scored a 41 against Afghanistan, I could not convert it into a big score. On personal front, I am happy that I could strike form."

Liton also said the third Asia Cup final loss was hard to resist and was hoping to end up on the winning side.

"Last night, the entire side was at loss of words. This was yet another final which we lost closely. It has happened in the past as well, so it was extremely disappointing for all of us,” he said. “It would have been great if we could leave on a winning note."
