Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah underwent successful surgery to treat a shoulder injury that had already ruled him out of the 2023 ICC World Cup, scheduled to begin in India.
The right-arm fast bowler sustained the injury during a crucial match against India in the 2023 Asia Cup last month. Medical examinations revealed a muscle injury in the shoulder area that was unrelated to previous shoulder problems.
The injury required surgical intervention, which was successful. After the surgery, Shah was recommended a rest period of four to six weeks, followed by a gradual rehabilitation process.
On the reserve day for Pakistan's second match against India in the 2023 Asia Cup last month, the pacer left the field in the 46th over. Shortly after, the PCB issued a press release stating that the right-back would not be able to play for the remainder of the tournament.
Pacer Hasan Ali, who last played an ODI match for Pakistan against West Indies in Multan in 2022, replaced Shah in Pakistan's World Cup squad.
Naseem Shah's recovery timeline suggests a prolonged absence from the cricket scene, with an estimated return to active duty in three to four months.
