Mumbai Indians have signed England pacer Chris Jordan for the remainder of the tournament. Jordan has already joined the MI camp ahead of Sunday's game against the Rajasthan Royals.
England fast bowler Chris Jordan has joined the Mumbai Indians as a substitute for the remainder of the 2023 IPL.
Jordan was unsold at the auction which took place in December last year at a base price of INR 2 crore but has previous IPL experience with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings.
Mumbai Indians have signed England pacer Chris Jordan for the remainder of the 2023 IPL. Mumbai's campaign has been marred by injuries to key players like Jasprit Bumrah and Jhye Richardson and Jordan's arrival is a huge boost for the team. Meanwhile, it's still not clear who Jordan has replaced in the Mumbai Indians squad. Jofra Archer recently had surgery in Belgium and hasn't played much for MI this season. There is speculation that Jordan may have replaced Jofra Archer but there is no clear update on the matter.
Jordan has played 28 games in IPL and claimed 27 wickets. Despite Jordan having a strong reputation as a T20I specialist for England, he has failed to make a name for himself in the IPL. He made his IPL debut in 2016 which was his best season winning 11 wickets in 9 games.
Jordan recently gained T20 experience with a season with eventual champions Gulf Giants at February's ILT20 tournament. He finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker, picking 20 wickets in ten innings with an average of 13.80. He also played three T20Is against Bangladesh last month.
Archer is expected to play against Rajasthan Royals for Mumbai on Sunday night, with the side hoping to move up from ninth place in the IPL points table.
