Legendary Indian cricketer and former captain MS Dhoni has expressed his admiration for star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, naming him as his current favorite bowler. Bumrah, who debuted internationally under Dhoni’s captaincy in 2016 against Australia, has been a standout performer in recent times. His stellar contributions helped India clinch the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, earning him the Player of the Tournament award.
Dhoni, the two-time World Cup winner from India, was asked to choose his favorite bowler during a recent media conference. Dhoni pointed out Jasprit Bumrah right away, stressing the pacer's outstanding consistency and form.
However, when it came to naming a favorite batsman, Dhoni admitted it was a tougher choice due to the abundance of talented batsmen in the Indian team.
"Bowler ka aasan hai. Bumrah is there. Batsman main thoda mushkil ho jata. Itne aache batsman hai hamare pas. Iska matlab ye nahi ki bowler kharab hai. Just bol raha hu pick karna mushkil ho jata. Jisko batting karte dekho yahi hai, isko hi dekhna hai, but then somebody else comes and vo bhi utna hi acha lagta. Jab tak Team India achi karte rahegi, I don’t want to pick a batter. Hopefully, they keep scoring runs. Bowler meine ek pick kar liya(Bowlers, it is easy. Jasprit Bumrah is there. It is tough with batsmen. We have so many good batsmen. That does not mean bowlers are not good. Just saying, it is tough. Whoever I watch, it feels great, but then somebody else comes and he seems as good. Till Team India is doing well, I do not want to pick. Hopefully, they keep scoring runs. However, I have picked one bowler)," Dhoni stated at the event.
In addition to his comments on Bumrah, Dhoni hinted at a possible return for the IPL 2025 season, provided the BCCI allows 5–6 retentions in the upcoming season.
On the other hand, Bumrah has been rested for India’s tour of Sri Lanka but is expected to be back in action for the Test series against Bangladesh starting inSeptember.
