New Zealand will visit Bangladesh this month for the five-match T20I series which is scheduled to start on September 1. Bangladesh selectors have already submitted their squads to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the series and now awaiting the approval of the Board President. There have been hints of some change before that.

In the last two series against Zimbabwe and Australia, Bangladesh have played with the same team. Now, only one cricketer is expected to be dropped from the squad for the New Zealand series. And he’s middle-order batsman Mohammad Mithun.

So, the 30-year old batsman is supposed to be dropped from the squad without getting a chance in the last two series. Needless to say, his chances of getting a place in the T20 World Cup squad, which starts in October, are slim.

Except Mithun, all the other members of the current squad will be in the New Zealand series squad. Mushfiqur Rahim, who made himself unavailable for the tour of Zimbabwe to be with his family, and Liton Das, who was dropped from the team on the eve of the Australia series due to Covid protocols will be back in the squad. However, opener Tamim Iqbal is unlikely to return. His rehabilitation activities will continue for another month to heal the injury.

Two uncapped pacers- Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Shahidul Islam are going to be called up for the New Zealand series. However, they are not in contention for the main XI now but as a reward for good performances recently and to help the batsmen in the practice session.
