The Mirpur Test saw vicious turn and bounce right from the first day's play. That match ended in two and a half days. ICC later handed one demerit point on this pitch.
However, Bangladesh Cricket Board challenged ICC's decision and appealed against it. On Friday (16 March), ICC said in a media release that match referee David Boon's decision of adding one demerit point was correct.
"The International Cricket Council has upheld the decision to impose one demerit point on the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium for a “below average” pitch used during the second Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka from 8-10 February 2018.
"The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s appeal against the sanction was considered by Geoff Allardice, General Manager – Cricket, and Anil Kumble, Chair of the Cricket Committee, who after taking into account the grounds for appeal and other relevant information, came to the conclusion that the rating given by David Boon of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees was correct," said an ICC release.
There were a total of 681 runs scored in Dhaka Test which Sri Lanka won by 215 runs to seal series 1-0. The first Test's pitch Chittagong was also handed one demerit point for a flat track.
