With just a day to go before the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 kicks off on December 30, all seven participating teams have finally unveiled their captains. The announcements came as late as December 29 for most teams, adding to the excitement and anticipation.

Fortune Barishal, last season’s champions under Tamim Iqbal’s leadership, had confirmed their captain well in advance. Similarly, Rangpur Riders stuck to their winning formula by retaining Nurul Hasan Sohan as their skipper, following his success in leading the team to the Global Super League title.

For the other teams—Dhaka Capitals, Durbar Rajshahi, Chittagong Kings, Sylhet Strikers, and Khulna Tigers—the captaincy announcements brought a mix of surprises and strategy shifts.

• Dhaka Capitals: Despite having stars like Litton Das and Mustafizur Rahman, the team handed the captaincy to Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera, who will be leading in the BPL for the first time.
• Durbar Rajshahi: The leadership responsibilities went to Anamul Haque Bijoy, with star pacer Taskin Ahmed serving as the vice-captain.
• Chittagong Kings: The team opted for consistency by naming seasoned performer Mohammad Mithun as captain, despite big names like Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, and Angelo Mathews being in the squad but facing availability concerns.
• Khulna Tigers: Young all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who recently captained Bangladesh in Test and ODI formats, will lead the Tigers.
• Sylhet Strikers: The Strikers chose all-rounder Ariful Haque to guide the team this season.

The BPL 2025 curtain-raiser on December 30 will see Fortune Barishal take on Rangpur Riders, pitting two seasoned captains, Tamim Iqbal and Nurul Hasan Sohan, against each other.
