In the ongoing cycle of the World Test Championship, Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been the best performer for Bangladesh with both bat and bowl in hand. With his all-round performance, Miraz has now joined the ranks of Ben Stokes and Ravindra Jadeja. After Stokes and Jadeja, Miraz has become the third cricketer to score over 500 runs and take 30 wickets in a single cycle of the WTC as an all-rounder.
Before this Test, Miraz had already completed 30 wickets in this cycle of the WTC. Among Bangladesh's bowlers, he is the highest wicket-taker in this cycle. While batting in the second innings, Miraz reached the milestone of 500 runs.
In 9 Tests and 16 innings, Miraz has scored 544 runs. However, he still has the opportunity to increase this tally in this Test. After the third day's play in the Mirpur Test against South Africa, he remains unbeaten on 87 runs. After the first innings, his wicket count stands at 34. Bangladesh's lead in the second innings is 81 runs.
Back in the 2019 cycle, Ben Stokes became the first all-rounder to score over 500 runs and take 30 wickets. In that cycle, Stokes scored 1,334 runs at an average of 46 and took 34 wickets with the ball. Stokes repeated this feat in the 2021 cycle, scoring 971 runs and taking 30 wickets. In that same cycle, alongside Stokes, Ravindra Jadeja also achieved this feat. Jadeja took 47 wickets and scored 721 runs.
