Meg Lanning, captain of the Australian Women's team who won four T20 World Cup titles, an ODI World Cup title, and a Commonwealth Games title, has retired. She suddenly retired at the age of 31. Lanning has scored over 8000 runs for his country in all formats.

Lanning has had a rich career in Australian cricket. Lanning has a total of 17 centuries in his international career. Which includes a career-best 152 not out against Sri Lanka with 15 centuries in ODI cricket. 15 is the most number of centuries in women's ODI cricket. Her closest rival with 12 centuries is veteran New Zealand batter Suzie Bates.

Lanning's last international match was against South Africa. Australia won the T20 World Cup by winning that match. The decision to step away from international cricket was difficult for her, but she feels now is the right time.

Lanning said, "The decision to step away from international cricket was a difficult one to make, but I feel now is the right time for me. I've been incredibly fortunate to enjoy a 13-year international career, but I know now is the right time for me to move on to something new. Team success is why you play the game, I'm proud of what I have been able to achieve and will cherish the moments shared with team-mates along the way.

"I'd like to thank my family, my teammates, Cricket Victoria, Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers' Association for their support to allow me to play the game I love at the highest level. I also want to say a huge thank you to all the fans who have supported me throughout my international career."

Lanning's first ICC title came in the 2012 T20 Cup in Sri Lanka and the following year she won the ODI World Cup in India. Lanning led her country to a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The highly consistent right-handed batter took over the captaincy from Jodie Fields at the start of 2014 and led her country in 182 matches in addition to winning 5 ICC event titles during a golden period for Australian women's cricket.

Lanning was named the ICC Women's T20 Cricketer of the Year in 2014 and the ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year the following year.
