Angelo Mathews and Kamindu Mendis' 78 run stand helped Sri Lanka get some leads after the stumps of day 3.
England started the day incredibly well as Jamie Smith stood tall and brought up his maiden Test hundred [111]. Some crucial runs from Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson at the backend of the England's innings aided England get the lead past 100. England's innings stopped on 358, with a lead of 122 runs.

Asitha Fernando was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka, claiming 4 wickets. While Prabath Jayasuriya had three wickets to his name.

In reply, Sri Lanka were pegged back as Chris Woakes knocked over Nishan Madushka for a three-ball duck. And then Gus Atkinson had Kusal Mendis for another duck and Sri Lanka were succumbing to death. Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews did the rebuild job and added 51 runs. Karunaratne fell to Mark Wood, while Mathews was battling hard to get to his fifty.

Dinesh Chandimal was retired hurt after scoring 10 but then came back and remained unbeaten on 20*. Kamindu Mendis on the contrary, brought up a crucial fifty to help Sri Lanka get a slender lead of 82 runs.

Sri Lanka are effectively on 82/6, with Kamindu Mendis and veteran campaigner Chandimal still out on the crease, they'll be hoping them to get over 250 runs lead to have something for their bowlers to fight back.
