Australian star batsman Marnus Labuschagne made cricket history by joining English legend Joe Root's exclusive club of batsmen with 4,000 runs at the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).

Australian star batsman Marnus Labuschagne has secured another success: he is the second batsman in history after Joe Root to score 4,000 runs in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).

The 30-year-old right-handed batsman, who batted at No.3 for the Baggy Greens in the first innings of the ongoing Boxing Day Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, became the second batsman in the world after Root to score 4000 runs in the World Test Championship. Labuschagne joined Root in the 4000-run club by crossing the 14-run mark during Australia's first innings on Thursday.

Root, who is ranked No.1 in the ICC Test Batter's Rankings, became the first batsman to score 4000 runs in the WTC. The right-handed batsman from Yorkshire has 5543 runs to his name in 64 matches played so far, which is the most runs by a player in the history of the WTC.

Labuschagne's milestone is particularly significant as he entered the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the back of a dry spell under pressure. However, the right-hander has shown signs of a return to form, scoring two half-centuries in six innings in the ongoing series against India.

On the first day of the fourth Test, Labuschagne played a crucial role in stabilising Australia's innings after debutant Sam Konstas impressed with a 60-run knock before succumbing to Ravindra Jadeja. Labuschagne initially partnered Usman Khawaja (57) in a 65-run stand before building an unbroken partnership of over 80 runs with Steve Smith. His composed innings of 72 helped Australia post a post-day score of 311/6.
