After the board of governors meeting, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that it wants to host six ICC Men's events in the next decade. Pakistan will bid to host 2025 and 2029 Champions Trophy tournaments on their own as the threshold number of venues is only three.
While they would like to co-host the 2026 and 2028 T20 World Cups and the 2027 and 2031 ODI World Cups with other Asian countries.
"The BoG was informed that the PCB has submitted expression of interest for six ICC Events in the 2024-31 cycle. Of these six events, the PCB is keen to host the three-venue ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and 2029 on its own, while it has offered to host the remaining four events – two eight-venue ICC T20 World Cups 2026 and 2028, as well as the two 10-venue ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups 2027 and 2031 – in partnership with other Asian countries," PCB wrote in a release.
"The ICC’s evaluation committee will now examine and evaluate the PCB as well as other members’ expression of interests and revert with their decision, before the second phase of the event hosting process begins in September. The PCB remains hopeful that it will earn hosting rights of, at least, one event, which, in turn, will act as a great boost to Pakistan, which last staged an ICC event in 1996."
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon has recently said that they will bid for the eight-team 2025 Champions Trophy, making the tournament return to where it all began in 1998 (as ICC KnockOut). As far as 20-team T20 World Cup and 14-team ODI World Cup are concerned, Bangladesh would rather be keen to co-host with their neighbours.
Meanwhile, BCCI has expressed their will to host the 2028 T20 World Cup and 2031 ODI World Cup alongside the 2025 Champions Trophy in the next FTP (Future Tours Programme). The BCCI is hosting the 16-team 2021 Men's T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman. The 10-team World Cup in 2023 will be played in India.
