South Africa middle-order batter Heinrich Klaasen thinks that the pitch in New York doesn’t good in terms of selling cricket all over the world but it is quiet exciting in terms of competition as each and every team is almost parallel on this wicket and any team can win against any team.

The New York pitch produces all the low-scoring games in this year’s ICC T20 World Cup. The 6 games were played here but the highest score is only 137 runs by Canada. Yesterday was also the low-scoring game as South Africa scored 113 runs in 20 overs and Bangladesh fell short of 4 runs and lost the match. But all the games here produce much more competition.

“It’s still a good cricket for the cricket lovers that’s out there. Obviously if you have to showcase to the world and sell it, I don’t think it’s a good selling product but for cricket, it’s tight competition. It brings the other teams and the high teams very close to each other. So the game is open to any team that wins and who that’s the basic of cricket very well. For us, it’s very nerve wracking because every game becomes a really big game. There’s no easy game for us, especially in our group. So it’s still good at entertaining cricket. Everyone is on the edge of their seat and any team can beat any team on the day on this field,” Klaasen said.

In this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL), there were many high-scoring games. More specifically, Klaasen’s Sunrisers Hyderabad were involved in many of these. Even Hyderabad scored the highest-ever score of 287 runs in T20 cricket. Klaasen points out that fact and says that there’s a big change in terms of this and they have to play smart cricket in USA.

“It’s a big change. You see scores like 200s there and well it was a month and a half ago we were part of a score of 270 and 260. So it’s well-off. But it’s part of the game. You still have to win the game. So the smarter teams and the way the guys have to bat, we have to adopt. All the Caribbean wickets are too much better. So we have to play smart cricket and use our cricket brain a little bit more,” Klaasen added.
