England's star bowler Jofra Archer is setting his eyes on a Test cricket return during the 2025-26 Ashes in Australia. After being out for over 18 months, the 29-year-old made his return at the SA20 2023. He represented the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 but sustained an elbow injury during the competition, which kept him out of the Ashes 2023 and the ODI World Cup.
To ensure his long-term fitness, Archer will be kept away from Test cricket throughout 2024, focusing on regaining peak fitness for the 2025-26 Ashes showdown in Australia.
Jofra Archer expressed his determination to make a successful return, saying, “I am going to use the rest of this year to make sure that is at least a possibility. I'm tired of going on Instagram and seeing posts saying 'he's going to be on the physio's bed in the next two weeks' and stuff like that. I want to spend the rest of the year proving some people wrong and hopefully playing in another Ashes.”
The England speedster revealed his plans to play County Championship matches next year to be ready for Test cricket. “I will manage myself as best as possible and get myself through until at least maybe the start of the championship next year. I'll probably play a few games and keep building up and getting that workload ready for Test cricket,” Archer stated.
Archer is set to play for the Southern Brave in the ongoing The Hundred 2024, and he is excited to enjoy some white-ball cricket at home. He signed off by saying, “I am feeling good and want to get some games in. I am going to enjoy this little phase of some white-ballr cricket.”
