Bumrah intentionally stood in the way of Pope's run in the 81st over of the English second innings. As a result, Pope hit Bumrah's body while taking the run. The ICC did not take the matter well, gave the punishment.
Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, relates to "inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match". Bumrah defies this rule by deliberately standing in the way of Pope's run. As a result, ICC has added 1 demerit point to his name.
Violation of the rules at Level One stage carries a maximum penalty of 50% of the match fee as well as 1 or 2 demerit points. This is Bumrah's first demerit point in 24 months. If a player receives a total of 5 demerit points within 24 months, he will be banned for two ODIs or two T20Is or one Test.
England beat India by 28 runs to write a remarkable comeback story in Hyderabad. The visitors now lead 1-0 in the five-match Test series.
