The BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) has announced the squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against India, which commences on September 19 in Chennai. Mahmudul Hasan Joy returns to the squad after missing the historic Pakistan Test series due to injury. Explosive middle order batter Jaker Ali too gets the nod in the Test side.
Bangladesh will start the Test series against India on the back of a historic Test series whitewash over Pakistan away from home.
Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the Bangladesh side against an Indian side who are leading the WTC points ladder. The spin attack will rely on veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, rising all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam. Nayeem Hasan also has been added to the squad as an extra spin option due to the Indian spinning condition.
Bangladesh's pace attack is one of the forces to be reckoned with, comprising speedster Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana, along with Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed.
Bangladesh's top-order batting has been fragile in the Pakistan series and the onus will be on the top order to step up this time. Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shadman Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, and Zakir Hasan will be combined together for the top 3.
The experienced middle order has Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Wicket-keeper batter Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Bangladesh's batting strength is their middle order and hence they'll be hoping them to stretch the purple patch in the upcoming series as well.
The Test series commences on Thursday (September 19) in Chennai and then the second Test will start from Friday (September 28) in Kanpur. Then both sides will meet each other for a three-match T20I series. Bangladesh is yet to win a Test match against India.
