West Indies match-winner Sherfane Rutherford says after the win against New Zealand that it is only the beginning of something big in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
West Indies beat New Zealand by 13 runs on Thursday (13th June) to reach the Super Eight of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Sherfane Rutherford's swashbuckling 68* off only 39 balls helped West Indies post 149 on the board after being reeling at 58-6. In reply, Alzarri Joseph and Gudakesh Motie ripped through Kiwi batting lineup to hand West Indies a brilliant 13-run victory.
“It is one tick in the box, but it is only the start of something big to come. Hopefully, we can continue the momentum,” Rutherford said.
Rutherford also talks about his jersey number which is 68 and he played a memorable innings of 68 runs also in the match. “I want to thank God for the opportunity. I am going to keep 68 close to my heart,” he added.
Rutherford then reveals his though process in the match. He took 37 runs in the last two overs of the innings, according to him, he was looking for those two overs. “I was just telling myself to take it deep. Me and Sammy had a talk and I knew if we got momentum, I could make it up in the end. Looking at their bowling line-up, I knew they were short of two overs. I knew they had to make up those overs and I wanted to maximise it,” Rutherford further said.
