The IPL 2025 action is heating up and Match 44 promises some extra spice! Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will host Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on April 26 at 7:30 PM IST. With the playoff race getting tighter both teams know how crucial this clash is.

All eyes will be on former KKR captain Shreyas Iyer as he returns to his old hunting ground. Iyer who once led KKR to a memorable title now dons PBKS colors after a dramatic turn of events. Despite captaining KKR to glory he was not retained by KRR a decision that left many surprised, including Iyer himself.

Speaking about that moment, Iyer had earlier shared, "Yes, obviously disappointed, because when you don't have a certain line of communication and if you get to know things one week prior to the retention date, then obviously something is lacking over there. So I had to take a call."

While KKR did show interest during the auction it was Punjab who secured his services for a massive INR 26.75 crore. 

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar weighed in on Iyer’s return and expects fireworks.

"He will be fired up. And if he had been, you know, I’ve been out of form, if they had not done well, then one could understand. But the captain of a winning team not being retained will hurt. No question about it, that will hurt. Now he’s got, he went for much, much more to PBKS, which is fine. That would have given him a little bit of consolation, but nobody wants to be left out, and that is the thing. So clearly, I think he will have a point to prove. Or maybe half a dozen points to prove," Gavaskar said while speaking to the broadcasters.
