Suryakumar Yadav, skipper of Mumbai Indians, has been fined for slow over-rate during his side's 2023 Indian Premier League game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday 16th April.
Mumbai Indians captain Suryakumar Yadav has been fined after his team maintained a slow overrun during Sunday's Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.
"Because it was his team's first breach of the IPL Code of Conduct on minimum exceedances this season, Mr. Suryakumar Yadav was fined Rs. 12 lakh," an IPL media advisor said on Sunday.
Suryakumar led the team in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who was sidelined with an upset stomach. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Nitish Rana has been fined 25% of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.
He was seen arguing with Mumbai Indians spinner Hrithik Shokeen after the latter sacked the KKR captain for 5 runs of 10 balls. Shokeen sent off the batsman, causing the Knight Riders captain to lose his nerve.
The 22-year-old off-spinner was fined 10% of his match fee for violating the IPL code of conduct.
Mumbai Indians faced Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 22 of Indian Premier League 2023. After being asked to bat first, the Knight Riders scored 185/6 in their allotted 20 overs courtesy of Venkatesh Iyer.
Iyer (104 balls from 51) became the second KKR player after Brendon McCullum to score a century in IPL history. His knock included nine sixes and six fours.
In response, the Mumbai Indians chased the target with 5 wickets in hand and 14 balls left. The top marks for the Mumbai Indians were Ishan Kishan (58/25), Captain Suryakumar Yadav (43/25) and Tilak Varma (30/25).
Rohit Sharma (20) and Tim David (24*) also contributed runs to their team's tally to secure a comfortable win for the Mumbai-based franchise.
