New Zealand might have started the T20I series with an 80-run victory over the Indians but the visitors replied back in style to level the series 1-1. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. They managed to score 158/8 in their quota overs and thanks to Indian bowlers for doing a phenomenal job by restricting the hosts to a decent total. Krunal Pandya's 3/28 earned him the man of the match.[/caption] Kiwis' top-order collapsed completely and it was Colin de Grandhomme and Ross Taylor who steadied the ship to steer the side into the comfort zone. Both chipped in with 50 and 42 respectively. Krunal Pandya was the pick of the bowlers as he picked 3 wickets to his name while Khaleel Ahmed snatched 2 wickets. Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked 1 wicket apiece. In reply to Kiwis' total, India got off to a blistering start and thanks to Rohit Sharma. Yes, it was captain's knock which came at the right time. He scored a half-century off just 28 balls with 4 massive sixes and 3 fours to his name and he is also the only Indian captain to score a fifty against New Zealand. After he got out on 50, Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar too were dismissed quickly for 33 and 14 runs. Following the fall of 3 wickets, Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni gradually took on the opposition and scored runs at a brisk pace. Pant, in particular, smashed the bowlers with ease scoring a 28-ball 40 with 4 fours and a six while MS Dhoni scored a 17-ball 20 as India beat Kiwis by 7 wickets to level the series.

Krunal Pandya was named the man of the match for his sensational bowling figures as he ended up with 3/28 in his four-over spell. So, the series stands equal and it will be very much interesting to look forward to the series decider as both teams lock horns on January 10, Seddon Park.
