Although he has never played for the Indian national team, he is a legend. Because, he is the most successful bowler in the history of Ranji Trophy. He took 750 wickets in just 157 first-class matches for Haryana.
Goel, the highest wicket-taker in the history of the Ranji Trophy, was far ahead of the rest. S Venkataraghavan, who was in the second position against his 637 wickets, took 530 wickets.
Goel made his first-class cricket debut in the 1957-58 season. He then played domestic cricket till the age of 44. In 2017, Goel was awarded the CK Naidu Lifetime Achievement Award by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Goel was born on September 20, 1942 in Haryana. His father was a station master. At just 16 years old, he was recognized as the best bowler in the All India Schools Tournament. North Zone won the title that year with his contribution.
