The International Cricket Council (ICC) is closely monitoring the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, which has led to the resignation and departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This development has raised concerns about the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Bangladesh from October 3 to October 20.

Reports emerged on August 5 that Prime Minister Hasina resigned and left the country in an army helicopter amid escalating violence. The situation in Bangladesh, marked by severe unrest, has put the ICC on high alert.

An ICC board member, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, "The ICC has an independent security monitoring system across all its member nations. The situation is being monitored closely but with seven weeks left for the tournament to begin, it will be too early to comment whether the tournament will be shifted from Bangladesh"

Captains Harmanpreet Kaur of India and Nigar Sultana of Bangladesh were among those in attendance at a ceremony in Dhaka earlier this year when the ICC revealed the schedule for the Women's Twenty20 World Cup. At her apartment, Hasina spoke with both captains before the scheduled launch.

Dhaka and Sylhet will host the Twenty20 World Cup matches for women in 2024. In case something unexpected happens, the ICC also has a backup plan. Sri Lanka has held many multi-nation championships despite the country's political instability,therefore, it might be a viable possibility for a reloaction.
