Afghanistan beat Ireland by 57 runs on Tuesday (19th March) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium to seal the series by 2-1. A fine 72 run innings from Ibrahim Zadran and 4 fer from Azmatollah Omarzai aided Afghanistan win the series.
Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat first. Coming out to bat, they lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz for 6 off 6, Sediqullah Atal too couldn't long his innings as he fell to Delany for 19 off 19 balls. Afghanistan were stuttering on 48-3 after 8 overs.
It was Ibrahim Zadran and Mohammad Ishaq stitched a fine partnership of 54 runs off 40 runs before Mohammad Ishaq got out to Benjamin White after 27 off 22 balls. Afghanistan had a horrible middle order collapse but it was Ibrahim Zadran who held on one end. He single handedly demolished Irish bowling attack and scored a match turning 72 off only 41 balls at a strike rate of 142.18. And Afghanistan posted 155-7 on the board.
In reply, Naveen - Ul - Haque and Fazalhaq Farooqi ran riot with the new ball. They packed Irish top order and left them stutter at 15-3. Amatollah Omarzai then showed his class and had the middle order of Ireland.
There were no significant partnerships in Irish innings. Only Curtis Campher stood for a while and scoref 28 from 23 balls, while Gareth Delany made 21 from 19 balls but Ireland were bundled up for just 98 runs and lost the T20I series by 1-2.
