South Africa have beaten Pakistan by 2 wickets in the first Test to seal their spot for the next year's WTC final at the Lord's. A gritty 37 from Aiden Markram, and a quick-fire cameo of 31 from Kagiso Rabada in the lower order have helped the Proteas get the dramatic victory in Centurion.
At one point, South Africa were stuttering on 99-8 as they fumbled infront of the quality bowling of Mohammad Abbas. But Kagiso Rabada counterattacked and Pakistan got nervous but Rabada didn’t stop and ultimately steered South Africa home comfortably.
This dramatic victory in Centurion has taken the Proteas to the World Test Championship Final at the Lord's.
While talking about the feeling, South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma said it was emotional moment for him.
"Quite an emotional moment for me. Lot of joy and happiness on our [South Africa's] side. We did the hard way. But glad we won. I was still sulking. Aiden get them going. Wasn’t a lot of conversations. We still had the confidence," - Temba Bavuma said in the post match conference.
Also he said that he was hiding in the toilet during the nerve-wrecking 51*-run partnership between Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada.
"I didn’t come out to the viewing area and was in the toilet. I came when 15 runs were needed."
Temba Bavuma further said this was a big win foe the Proteas.
"It is a big win. Not just for myself. But for the coaches. The way we started our campaign against India. We weren’t given much of a chance. We weren’t ruthless. But we keep finding ways. We hope the guys can get confidence from performances like these. Guys get picked on when they do badly. We would like to enjoy the moment and take stock of what we have done." - Temba Bavuma concluded.
