Former Australia opener David Warner supports Joe Root’s statement regarding Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal in the Ashes 2023.

Recently Root, the former captain of England, bemoaned Bairstow's controversial stumping dismissal during the 2023 Ashes match at Lord's.

Warner went on to Instagram to post a story showing Root’s statement and says that, “I respect this.”

During the second Test match at Lord's, Jonny Bairstow was dismissed in a bizarre manner, although it wass still within the rules of the game. Bairstow was leaving the crease early and the wicketkeeper, Alex Carey studied his pattern before running him out. Bairstow didn't expect this in the first place and was given out since he was out of the crease.

"Initially I was quite angry, but I think when you're involved in the game it's very difficult to put yourself in the other position. So I'd like to say I would have dealt with it differently (than Australia), but I could very easily have done the same thing. At the end of the day it's within the laws of the game. You should be aware as a player. Jonny will hate me saying this, but if you stay in your crease you can't get given out can you?" Root said.
