When Shashank Singh came to the crease Punjab Kings needed 89 runs from 46 deliveries. Shashank Singh playing his first match of the season, came out all guns blazing and hammered the GT bowlers to take Punjab Kings home in a thriller of a chase with just 1 ball remaining and 3 wickets in hands. He blasted 61 off only 29 deliveries with a jaw dropping strike rate of 210.34. After his match winning knock he said, he doesn't see the bowler, he just sees the ball and reacts to it.
"Rashid and Noor are world-class spinners. I was trying to read them from the hand," Shashank told Star Sports after the game. "I don't improvise too much. You won't see me play the scoop, reverse sweep much."
"Obviously, I saw videos of them yesterday, but playing them in the match is a different feel. I was backing my shots. I had the same plan for Mohit bhai. His back-of-the-hand [slower balls] are very good, plus he uses the bouncer well. My plan was to just react to the ball and keep my mind as calm as possible."
"Still trying to sink [it] in," he said at the post-match presentation. "I have visualised all these things, you visualise them before a match. But obviously turning it into reality, [I am] feeling very happy and proud of myself."
"I am the best in the world when I go to bat. I don't see the bowler; I just see the ball and react to it." - he added.
Punjab Kings next assignment is Sunrisers Hyderabad on 9th April in a home affair at Chandigarh. Punjab Kings have played 4 games till now and won games and lost as many games, standing on 5th position.
