Mohammad Shami had been a name of ‘danger’ since the opening match of the World Cup 2015. The Indian fast bowler took 17 wickets in just 6 matches. He was in great form throughout the whole tournament, both with new and old ball. I didn't want to play 2015 World Cup semifinal: Mohammad Shami

But Shami played the entire World Cup with a knee injury. Yet the performance did not dry up. But in the World Cup semifinal against Australia in Sydney, he had to lose against his injury. Shami did not get any wicket with 68 runs in 10 overs. Australia scored 328 runs with the help of Steve Smith’s century. India were all out for 233 runs after chasing the target. Shami still regrets that semifinal loss. "I had a knee injury throughout the World Cup," he recently said on Instagram Live. “After a match, I couldn't walk. I broke my knee in the first match. The knee becomes almost as thick as the thighs. The water had to be taken out of the knee every day. I had to take three painkillers." Shami, who was struggling with pain even before the semifinal against Australia, did not want to play in the important semifinal. Shami, encouraged by captain MS Dhoni, said,

"Before the semifinals, I told everyone I couldn't take it anymore. There was a lot of pain that day. But management has said it will be fine. They said the match was a semifinal, that no one new can’t be taken. Mahi (Dhoni) gave me a lot of confidence.”

Shami was made a good start in the match despite playing with painful injections. He gave up only 13 runs in the first spell of 5 overs. The Australian openers suffered several times. But the wicket was not seen. Later, he came to bowl again but conceded lots of runs. Australia made a huge total, India slip away from the tournament. Shami's World Cup mission ended with shock.
