Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has taken to social media to apologize to his fans after being ruled out of the upcoming Test series against Australia due to persistent injury issues. Shami, who last played for India during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, has been struggling with recurring injuries ever since.
The right-arm pacer’s absence from the much-anticipated series against Australia has left fans disappointed, but Shami assured everyone that he’s working hard on his recovery.
Shami’s injury struggles began after the World Cup final, where he suffered an ankle injury that sidelined him for several months. Despite undergoing surgery and completing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, his return to international cricket has been delayed due to swelling in his knees.
Although the pacer recently shared that he no longer feels pain, the selectors opted to leave him out of the five-match Test series against Australia.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Shami expressed his regret over missing out on the series, posting a video with a caption that read:
"Putting in my efforts and getting better with my bowling fitness day-by-day. Will continue working hard towards getting ready for the match and to play domestic red ball cricket. Sorry to all cricket fans and BCCI too, but very soon I’m ready to play red ball cricket, love you all."
While the Indian pace attack will still feature experienced bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, and young talents like Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana, Shami’s absence leaves a gap in the lineup. The reserves for the series include Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, and Khaleel Ahmed, who will provide backup for the main squad.
