Despite Virat Kohli's century against Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lost the match on Sunday (May 21). With this, they lost the chance to reach the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs.
Kohli also set the record in that match at Chinnaswamy Stadium. RCB's match against Gujarat was a do-or-die battle. And in that stressful match, Kohli proved himself once again why he is the best batter in the world.
In the previous match, he also scored a century against Sunrisers Hyderabad. And then he scored a century against Gujarat in the last match of the league stage. Which was Kohli's 7th century in IPL. Kohli broke Chris Gayle's record with that century.
Gayle was the owner of a maximum of 6 centuries in IPL so far. But on this day Kohli overtook Gayle. However, the West Indies batter jokingly said that he’ll come back to cricket again to get the record again. The 'Universe Boss' said this in an interview on Jio Cinema.
"Never doubt Virat Kohli. Fantastic innings, well played, you know, he has put his team in a winning position," Gayle said during the mid-innings break on Jio Cinema.
"Virat and Faf batted really well, but it was all about Virat Kohli... Fantastic innings by Virat, he has passed the Universe Boss. I am coming back out of retirement and I will see you next year Virat," he added.
