As Team India prepares to face Bangladesh in the first test, newly appointed captain for the opening game KL Rahul said India would miss their regular captain Rohit Sharma and they hope he recovers quickly and comes back for the second test.
Amid much speculation over the injury to regular Indian captain Rohit Sharma, assistant skipper KL Rahul provided an update ahead of Monday's opening test against Bangladesh. Rahul claimed that Rohit is an important player for the side and said he hopes the former is back in time for the second Test.
The two-game test series will start on December 14th, while the second test will take place in Mirpur on December 22nd. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma missed the third and final ODI against Bangladesh with a finger injury sustained in game two.
"Rohit Sharma is a very important player for us. He is an experienced player and the captain of our team. Fingers crossed...we hope he recovers quickly and returns for the second Test," KL Rahul said at the pre-match press conference.
Record-breaker Virat Kohli had a memorable day at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium as he brought up his first ODI century since August 2019, his 44th in the 50-over format. He also overtook Australian legend Ricky Ponting to become the player with the second highest number of international cricket centuries. He surpassed Ponting, who had 71 international cricket tons, to become the sport's second-highest goalscorer of the century with 72 overall.
“Virat Kohli's score against Bangladesh will give him confidence in the friendly. He's been around for so long, he's such an experienced player," he added. The BCCI selection committee has come under fire for picking Cheteshwar Pujara over Rishabh Pant as vice-captain for the upcoming two-game Test series against Bangladesh after KL Rahul was named skipper in place of the injured Rohit Sharma, who will miss the opening game in the Chattogram.
