India's newly appointed head coach, Gautam Gambhir, celebrated his first Test victory in charge as the Indian team registered a commanding 280-run win over Bangladesh in the 1st Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This marks a promising start for Gambhir’s Test coaching tenure, following a mixed run in white-ball formats earlier this year.

Taking to Instagram, Gambhir shared his excitement, posting a story with pictures of the Indian players and captioning it, "A fantastic start! Well done boys!" The former cricketer turned coach had already overseen a T20I series clean sweep over Sri Lanka but faced a setback in the ODI series against the same opposition. However, the Test series opener saw India put in a dominant all-round performance, spearheaded by Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ashwin was the star of the match, being named Player of the Match for his remarkable all-round display. The seasoned off-spinner picked up six wickets for 88 runs in Bangladesh’s second innings and also contributed significantly with the bat, scoring a magnificent 113 in India's first innings. His partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, worth 199 runs for the seventh wicket, rescued India from a precarious position at 144/6, helping the hosts post a solid total of 376.

The Indian innings was further boosted in the second innings by centuries from Shubman Gill (119*) and Rishabh Pant (109*), who stitched together a crucial 167-run stand. This set Bangladesh an enormous target of 515 runs to chase in the fourth innings. Despite positive starts from the Bangladeshi openers and a determined knock from captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, the visitors were bowled out for 234.

Ashwin once again proved to be the match-winner with the ball, claiming six wickets in the second innings to complete his stellar performance at his home ground. Jasprit Bumrah also played a crucial role in the first innings, taking four wickets to dismantle the Bangladeshi batting lineup for just 149.

As the second Test looms on the horizon, Gambhir and the Indian team will be eager to carry this momentum forward and secure another series victory. The next match is scheduled to begin on September 27 at Green Park, Kanpur.
