Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and Indian batting icon Virat Kohli have formed a strong friendship in recent years, largely due to their time playing together for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, their relationship had a rocky start, thanks to a light-hearted moment that was misunderstood by Kohli.

Maxwell recently shared a surprising incident from 2017 that caused a temporary rift between him and Kohli. During the third Test in Ranchi, Kohli suffered a shoulder injury while fielding, which sidelined him for a while. In what was meant to be a playful gesture, Maxwell mimicked Kohli’s injured posture during Australia’s fielding session. However, the humor didn’t land well with Kohli, who reacted by blocking Maxwell on Instagram.

In a recent interview on the LiSTNR Sport podcast, Maxwell recalled the moment: "When I knew that I was going to RCB, Virat was the first guy to message me and welcome me to the team. When I turned up for the pre-IPL training camp, we obviously got chatting and spent a fair bit of time training together as you do. So, I go to his social media and follow him. I didn't even think about that incident before that. Never really crossed my mind. I was like, 'I can’t find him.'"

Maxwell revealed that he was puzzled about not finding Kohli’s profile, and someone mentioned that he might have been blocked. Eventually, Maxwell decided to confront Kohli about it. "I went and asked him, 'Have you blocked me on Instagram?' And he was like, 'Yeah, probably. It was when you mocked me during that Test match. I think I got the sh*** and decided to block you.'"

Despite the misunderstanding, the two quickly put the past behind them. Kohli unblocked Maxwell, and the duo became great friends during their time at RCB. Reflecting on the incident, Maxwell shared, "We became great friends after that."
