England have confirmed the debut of middle-order batsman Harry Brook in England's series-deciding match against South Africa at The Oval on Thursday (September 8).

The right-hander replaces Jonny Bairstow in the squad, who will miss the third Test and the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup due to an unfortunate golfing accident.

With 967 runs at 107.44 (including three tons) for the top spot in the County Championship Division One runs table, Brook also smashed 140 for England Lions against South Africa in a practice match in Canterbury.

However, the 23-year-old batsman Brook has debuted for England national team already this year in January against West Indies in T20Is.

"I'm really looking forward to going out and watching him play this week, but he's deserved his opportunity," England captain Ben Stokes said.

"I think I mentioned a few weeks ago he will be someone who represents England in all three formats for a long time. It's exciting to see him get his opportunity this week with the whites on."

After beating South Africa by an innings and 85 runs in the second Test at Old Trafford, the only alteration to the team is Brook's inclusion for the injured Bairstow. The series is tied at 1-1 currently.
