India's bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya sustained an untimely injury during the game against Bangladesh. The incident happened during the 9th over of Bangladesh's innings when Litton Das executed a superb straight drive. Hardik Pandya who just completed his run-up thought that it was a perfect chance for him to stop the ball with his right leg. However, that proved to be costly for him as he ended up getting injured.
Hardik missed all of the matches after that and his position was occupied by Suryakumar Yadav in the playing XI.
Pacer Prasidh Krishna will replace him in India's roster after being given the go light by the tournament's Event Technical Committee on Saturday.
As a result of the Event Technical Committee's Saturday approval of India's replacement player, Krishna is available to play against fellow World Cup pacesetter South Africa on Sunday.
At present, India and South Africa are tied for the top two positions in the World Cup standings. The outcome of Sunday's match in Kolkata will determine which team secures the coveted opportunity to conclude the group stage of the tournament in first place.
