India's star batter Shreyas Iyer has hit out at the media for spreading unverified reports about his unavailability for Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Tripura due to a shoulder injury. In response to these claims, Iyer took to social media, denying any such injury and expressing his frustration over the false reports circulating in the news.
Earlier reports suggested that Iyer had been ruled out of the Ranji match following a stellar performance against Maharashtra, where he smashed 142 runs off 190 balls. According to these rumors, Iyer was set to miss the next match to focus on recovering from a shoulder injury and would be resting for a week.
However, the Mumbai batter quickly dismissed the reports as baseless. On X (formerly known as Twitter), Iyer wrote, “Guys seriously let’s do some homework before publishing news,” criticizing journalists for not verifying the facts before spreading false information.
“It feels special, coming back after a very long time. Obviously, I was feeling a bit down with my injuries, but now, getting a century after a very long time, it’s a great feeling overall. I am absolutely keen for a comeback, but as we say, control the controllables, and my job is to keep performing and keep participating as much as possible and also see to it that my body is in the best shape,” Iyer had shared after his century.
Despite these injury concerns, Iyer confirmed his commitment to playing Test cricket, dismissing any suggestion that he was opting out of matches to protect himself. "Absolutely, the drive is still to play Tests. That’s why I’ve been playing. I mean, or else I would have given a reason and sat out," he stated.
