Four years ago, Mehidy Hasan-led Bangladesh U19 team’s dream was broken. Bangladesh lost to West Indies in the U19 World Cup semi-final match and their hopes were shattered at home. Great opportunity is in front of you, Mehidy wishes Bangladesh U19 team

Four years later, this time Bangladesh U19 team is one step away from fulfilling that dream. Akbar Ali-led Bangladesh will face India in ICC U-19 World Cup final at Potchefstroom on Sunday, February 9. Former Bangladesh U-19 captain Mehidy Hasan said, "I will say only one thing to Akbar, Mahmudul Hasan and others. You do what we could not able to do. Fight until the very last minute. We all look to you.” Mehidy also said that he couldn’t forget the loss in the semi-final against West Indies in 2016. That pain didn’t heal till now. He said,

“I was very hurt by losing in the semifinals. It took me a long time to overcome that pain. From experience I can say that, great opportunity is in front of you. Try your best in the field.”

Bangladesh finished third in that World Cup. Bangladesh did not perform so well at the Youth World Cup before that. Mehidy was selected as the player of the tournament. The door of the national team opened for him after that performance. Mehidy said, “The Youth World Cup is a tournament where if you perform well then the opportunity to play in the national team comes. That's what happened to me.” Mehidy watched Bangladesh team’s performance in this year’s World Cup. "The team is playing as a unit," he said after the semifinal match against New Zealand. “Mahmudul scored a century in the match, but when it needs run, the rest have done so. That's the good side.” Mahmudul Hasan scored a century in the semi-final against the Kiwis. Already on social media, he’s being called 'right-handed Shakib'. “By trusting only one or two to win the final against India is not possible. This India team is a very powerful side. The team has to rely on the team game as it has been played till now, that game has to be played in the final,” Mehidy said. What should be the strategy of Bangladesh in Sunday's final? Mehidy said, “At least one pacer has to be performed very well. The spinner has to hold the run. And the middle order has to play an important role in batting.”
