The Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans were dealt an unexpected blow during Match 19 of IPL 2025 as New Zealand National Cricket Team star Glenn Phillips picked up a suspected groin injury while fielding against Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Phillips known for his lightning-fast reflexes and athleticism on the field was brought in as a substitute fielder for fast bowler Mohammed Siraj. However disaster struck during the final over of the powerplay.

On the 4th ball of the 6th over bowled by Prasidh Krishna SRH batter Ishan Kishan tapped a short delivery towards point and attempted a quick single. Phillips collected the ball cleanly and fired a quick throw at the stumps but in doing so immediately clutched his groin and collapsed to the ground in visible discomfort.

Medical staff rushed in as Phillips lay on the turf grimacing in pain. He was later escorted off the field by GT support staff sparking concern about a groin strain. The Gujarat Titans will now wait for medical assessments to determine the extent of the injury.

Glenn Phillips was signed by Gujarat Titans for INR 2 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction but is yet to feature in a match. This injury setback could delay his debut further depending on the diagnosis.
